mass timber + low carbon

80 Atlantic Avenue Commercial Building // toronto

Slated to be the first heavy timber commercial building constructed in Ontario in nearly a century. Hullmark Developments + Quadrangle selected a traditional, yet unusual, material for the structure of the building to differentiate it from the myriad of concrete/steel offices being built in the immediate area—with the intention to attract unique tenants to this post-and-beam office complex in Liberty Village. Utilizing cross laminated timber construction and stone, 80 Atlantic reflects the character of the surrounding architectural heritage and commercial redevelopment, exploring a building typology that is sustainable, aesthetically striking and cost-effective.

We also had to devise creative ways to hide the services to keep in line with the architects’ design of exposed timber.”
