Waterfront Toronto Revitalization: East Bayfront, West Don Lands, Queens Quay

The revitalization of Toronto’s Waterfront was comprised of three areas: East Bayfront, West Don Lands, and the Queens Quay. Work within the precincts was completed as scheduled, in time for 2015 Pan Am Games.

East Bayfront precinct spans Jarvis St. to east of Sherbourne and covers an area of roughly 4.5 hectares. Keystone features include: Sugar Beach, Sherbourne Common Park, and the Water’s Edge Promenade that connects them.

West Don Lands consisted of four sub-projects; Don River Park & River Square, Mill St. Public Realm & District-Energy Distribution System, Underpass Park, and Storm Water Quality Facility. Eastern also developed a soil recycling facility as a pilot project to remediate 8.2 hectares of contaminated soil on Unwin Ave.

Queens Quay (Central Waterfront) stretches 1.7 km and represented an active residential neighbourhood in addition to an area vibrant with hotels, retail operations and commercial office towers. The transformation of the Queens Quay into a world-class boulevard spanned east of Bathurst to Bay St. Eastern’s scope of work included: TTC track realignment and restoration, Toronto Hydro work, storm and sanitary upgrades, roadway, and public realm improvements. During the construction stage, residential access, traffic flow, and transit operations were maintained.
