Early this month, North York Community Council voted to name the Bessarion Community Centre, currently underway with Eastern Construction, using the Wendat word Ethennonnhawahstihnen’.  Once construction has concluded and the facility opens to the public, it will be the first City of Toronto community recreation centre and library branch to be named in collaboration with the Huron-Wendat Nation.

The Wendat word Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ is pronounced Etta-nonna wasti-nuh and means “where they had a good, beautiful life.”
