In time for the 2014 Fall session, Deerfield Hall opened its doors to the students and faculty at the Mississauga campus of the University of Toronto.  A design-build project valued at $49.5 Million, Eastern Construction delivered Deerfield Hall on schedule and within budget.

Shortly after commencing full operations, Deerfield Hall was recognized by the Ontario Concrete Association with an Architectural Merit Award.

"It is called the Architectural Merit Award but I think it is really about the construction team's ability to technically achieve the architectural end through resourcefulness and commitment," says Andrew Frontini of Perkins + Will Canada, when speaking with the Daily Commercial News about the project and the distinction of receving an Ontario Concrete Award.

Of particular note was the Architects’ approach to incorprating concerete forming as a design feature.  A unique plastic liner product was applied to industry-standard high density plywood forms to produce a "board-form look" to the architecturally exposed concrete columns and feature wall in Deerfield Hall.  The board-form harkens back to the days when 3.5-foot wide boards were used as forms and thus creates a visually appeal ‘retro-look’ to the exposed concrete elements featured in the building.
